Practically all these damn Nerds are back in school right now, so posts are intermittent at best. But semi-monthly one of the following Nerds will get an article up about their specialty — for your delight and edification:
The Language Nerd: Leah Nodar
Leah graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2011 with a major in linguistics and minors in German, Japanese, and mathematics, and is now wandering around the North Carolina State campus in pursuit of a sociolinguistic follow-up degree(s). She has also mucked around with Arabic, Korean, Turkish, and Amharic. Ask her anything about language, English or otherwise, ancient, modern, or made up.
The Language Nerd is the owner, main editor, and nerd wrangler for this site, so talk to her if you want to join the League!
The Biology Nerd: Stephanie Cockrill, née Norwood
Stephanie is the mighty wielder of a BS in Biology with minors in Chemistry and English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently on a quest to gain an MD from the UAB School of Medicine. Stephanie works tirelessly to change the internet’s stereotypes of Alabama and spends the remainder of her free time learning more about the awesome world of science!
The Art Nerd: Timothy Shirley
Timothy is currently in school, but that doesn’t make him any less willing to answer questions. He is working towards a BS in Arts and Technology at the University of Texas at Dallas. He can be found spending his time by improving his artistic abilities, his understanding of art and its history, analyzing the reasoning and intention behind various kinds of art, and playing video games because he’s bored.
(Note: The rest of the League would like to express our undying gratitude to the Art Nerd for the frickin sweet banner!)
The Paramedics Nerd: Steve Cole
Steve Cole has been involved in EMS and EMS education since 1990. He has worked for a variety of EMS agencies including volunteer fire, military, hospital based, private, and third service. He is currently employed by a top-tier and often besieged Third Service in the (kinda) North West. He fully intends to make it to the grave with at least 30 or so good stories before he kicks the bucket.
The Electromagnetics Nerd: Eric Myers
Eric holds an BE in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. He is currently working on his masters at Georgia Tech with a focus on electromagnetics and solar energy. Ask him anything about electricity, optics, or sound. When Eric isn’t lying awake at night thinking about the heat death of the universe you can find him speaking German, drawing, playing piano, or writing.
Hey I don’t know if you can help me with this, but I’m trying to hook up a DVD player to a DVD recorder, then to a TV, but can’t seem to get it to work. Do I have to have an HDMI cable or an S-Video cable?
